Next time your ear blocks up, try lying down with offending ear uppermost and get some kind person to drop in a VERY small amount (3-4 drops) of pure olive oil. Stay lying there for as long as you can (e.g. overnight). This is the technique recommended by ENT specialists in the UK, and often does the trick.
